New Contractor Marketing Effort?

We received a question from a new contractor concerning where to focus his effort to procure more work. He is a self-employed, self-performing tradesman.

His Question: Many responding to commercial and residential service calls to establish a cash flow. Using a couple of paid subscription services like Angies to gain clients.

How much time, cash, and energy should I spend on branding and marketing ads? How about social media like Facebook? Or should I build a website and SEO to drive traffic?

A couple of business decisions will be needed before we answer.

What is your goal?

  1. Service Call as a secondary infill and new commercial construction as your preferred market?

  2. Service Call as a secondary infill and residential construction as your preferred market?

  3. Leave the service call market as soon as possible and work in new Residential and commercial markets.

  4. Etc

The residential remodel and service markets will use social media networks and websites for tradesman qualifications, reputation, and reference research to aid in their "Fingers crossed" selection. So if you answer yes to #2 then go social.

If you are interested in New Residential and Commercial projects then no. Spending that money on social sites will not reach the decision-makers for those markets. Don't waste your marketing funds. Instead, consider joining an association or reaching out to their members. https://www.abc.org/, https://www.agc.org/, https://www.nahb.org/, and here in Washington consider: https://www.biaw.com/

Word of mouth is still king.

We will set up a marketing video for beginners to go into greater detail. Look for it shortly on our Training page at https://buildersflux.com
